Our History

In 1993 Jim Summer started Jim Summer Painting in Greenville, SC. He began the business as a one-man operation. He strived to please his customers, but more importantly to build relationships with each and every one of them. As his reputation grew, so did his business. Over the course of the next ten years, his three sons learned painting skills firsthand. They slowly became more involved in the business.

In 2004 Jim Summer Painting, changed the name of the business to Upstate Painting Contractors, LLC. Growth continued, with the reputation for quality and service pushing that growth. In 2008 Upstate Painting Contractors moved from South Carolina to Michigan, re-opening under the name Southern Michigan Painting.

SMP has come a long way since it's humble beginning back in the early 90's. One thing that remains is our foundation of extraordinary service and exceptional quality, a foundation that will never change!
